The Critical Edge of What We No Longer Want

Decide what you want, and decide what you don’t. The Virgo New Moon at 18º25’ Virgo on 11th September 1.26pm (AEDT) asks you to shift your energy towards supporting yourself and improving your life. During this New Moon, you may suddenly see something differently, realise you no longer like something, or recognise that you have outgrown what once seemed acceptable. This becomes a reset point where the critical edge of Virgo asks for a critical eye. Not to judge yourself, but to tell the truth about what is and isn’t working.

Wherever you have 18º25’ Virgo in your chart is where these new choices can begin to take shape. This is where you may decide to improve something, establish a new beginning, or simply stop tolerating what has become ineffective. Virgo is practical energy. It wants to sort, refine, simplify and make things work better. It is less interested in dramatic declarations and more interested in the question: What can I actually do differently from here? New habits and new patterns begin with that kind of honest assessment.

On 10th September Venus enters Scorpio and goes retrograde on 3rd October. This can bring unexpected material to the surface, revealing truths that have been hidden, both individually and collectively. Venus in Scorpio opposing Chiron in Taurus can expose something painful that needs to be acknowledged. Something hurts — and perhaps the point is that you finally stop pretending it doesn’t. Tuning into what you are truly feeling becomes necessary. And if that isn’t enough, Pluto arrives in an exact square to Venus, intensifying the complications around what is real, what is honest, and what may have been deceptive.

Venus, Chiron and Pluto are now all in fixed signs. There is no easy way around it: something has to be faced. Something that has been lying dormant may begin revealing itself. What is it? What needs to be fixed? What have you known instinctively but avoided naming? Scorpio does not work from the surface. It digs down into the gut-level resonance of something — the feeling that arrives before the explanation, the knowing that is not necessarily logical but is deeply instinctual. Pay attention to that. Your body may recognise the truth before your mind is ready to admit it.

Mercury entering Libra on 11th September makes you more inclined to talk, share what you think, search for new ideas and gather information. At the same time, Mercury forms a Grand Air-trine with Uranus and Pluto. With Uranian energy already running strong, this amplifies surprises, breakthroughs and revelations. Insights, messages and information can move quickly, helping you understand what to do next, revealing a new solution or suddenly pointing you in a different direction. Something that has been unclear can begin making sense with surprising speed.

Often Mercury receives a message as: “Something just clicks.” Then suddenly, things move. The Grand Air-trine supports rapid mental development and forward momentum. This can be highly social and interactive energy — ready to talk, ready to move, ready to exchange ideas, ready to share. A conversation could open a door. A piece of information could change your perspective. Or someone could say something that rearranges the way you have been thinking about an entire situation.

Uranus 5º Gemini Station turning Retrograde on 11th September and stays there until 8th of February 2027. This begins a review process around your mental state and what you are making room for in your head. It is a reminder to look closely at what you are focusing on and where your mind repeatedly gravitates. What occupies your thoughts every day? What conversations keep you engaged? And, perhaps most importantly, are those things actually contributing to the life you want to create?

Ask yourself:

  • Am I enjoying where my mental energy is going every day?
  • Am I satisfied with the conversations and connections I have in my life?

Uranus in retrograde can become louder. The energy becomes bigger, the disruption harder to ignore. It can bring awakened liberation — even a shock factor — to how we think, how we speak and what we share. Uranus is deeply connected to technology, and this retrograde could also awaken a desire to return to something more real: real life, real people, real conversations, rather than endless engagement with highly curated digital platforms like Instagram and the rest. It asks us to reconsider how we use our energy and to look honestly at how we communicate — and whether what we communicate is actually an authentic expression of who we are.

Mercury in Libra opposes Neptune Retrograde in Aries on the 13th September. Libra naturally looks towards the other, while Aries brings the focus back to the self. This alignment can create an important moment around hearing your own wisdom. Neptune asks you to listen beneath the noise — beneath what others expect, beneath what looks reasonable, beneath what you think you should want. What do you actually need? What is your own voice saying when you stop negotiating with everyone else’s?

Then Lilith in Capricorn reveals what is no longer effective, stirring up everything around your relationship with power, authority and success. Lilith in Capricorn is ambitious energy, but not the polished, socially acceptable version of ambition. Not the “LinkedIn” version. This is the ambition that runs so deep it can scare you, because somewhere inside you know that if you actually let yourself want what you want — without apology — the scale of it might make other people uncomfortable. So you downplay it. You make yourself smaller. You hold back your goals to support everyone else.

But Capricorn Lilith pushes those limits. She asks you to become the best version of yourself, but perhaps not in the way that phrase is usually used. Because the raw version — “I want to build something” — can feel dangerous to say out loud, especially if you were raised with the message that wanting too much meant you were selfish, ungrateful or somehow asking for more than you were entitled to. Lilith challenges that conditioning. She asks: What if you are actually allowed to want more?

This can bring up the part of yourself that has been repressed — the part you learned to hide. There may be shame around success, power or ambition, or an early childhood message about what success is supposed to look like. The things you had to do. What was required of you. The expectations placed upon you. But Lilith now says: I am going to show up in the world with my own power, my own gifts and my own goals. I am not going to hold myself back from what I am capable of doing simply to make other people comfortable.

So the question I leave you with is this: Are you prepared to take responsibility for admitting what you actually want? The Virgo New Moon helps answer that question by encouraging you to discriminate, clean up, simplify and make something workable. What may emerge is the recognition that a certain desire, frustration or instinct is actually telling you something useful. This is where honesty with yourself becomes an admission of what is and isn’t working — and where you may have been living according to someone else’s expectations. Something may need to change.

While Lilith is still sitting in conflict with Saturn, this pushes a developmental sequence towards action: If I don’t want to live like this anymore, then what actually needs to change? This is where suppressed dissatisfaction can become practical life redesign. Instead of endlessly analysing why you feel dissatisfied, you can begin identifying the structure, habits, relationships, work or choices that need to be different. Virgo wants the change to become tangible. Not just an insight. Not just a feeling. Something you can actually build into your life.

There can be a powerful drive now to build something REAL — and with it, a willingness to be misunderstood while you are in the middle of creating it. You do not need everyone to understand the new direction before you take it. You do not need permission to outgrow an old version of yourself. So stop negotiating with the life you have already realised you no longer want. Start building the life that actually accommodates who you have become.
